7A Regional Semifinals
New Smyrna Beach advances to the Regional Finals! They won in 4 sets: 25-15, 14-25, 25-21, 25-11. New Smyrna Beach will play their next match on Tuesday, 11/6.
9A Regional Semifinals
Spruce Creek battled against the #1-ranked team in the state and #17-ranked team in the nation: Oviedo. Ultimately, Oviedo came out on top in 4 sets: 25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 25-14. It was an incredible season for the Lady Hawks who ended up with 25 wins and 4 losses for 2018.
On Tuesday, 10/30, Volusia County has two high school teams playing away games in the Florida Regional Semifinals. Both teams have a chance to move forward in the playoffs and make it to their state class Regional Finals.
New Smyrna versus Lake Gibson (Lakeland) – 7A FHSAA Girls Volleyball
Tonight, the New Smyrna ladies travel to Lakeland to take on Lake Gibson. Lake Gibson finished first in District 6 and are ranked 91st in the state. New Smyrna is ranked 51st in the state and has an impressive 26 wins and 3 losses for the season. Winner of this match goes on to 7A Regional Finals.
Spruce Creek versus Oviedo (Longwood) – 9A FHSAA Girls Volleyball
The second match takes place in Oviedo. This match could easily be the 9A State Finals. #7-ranked Spruce Creek travels to Longwood to take on #1-ranked Oviedo. Spruce Creek has 25 wins and 3 losses, and Oviedo has a similar record with 24 wins and 4 losses. Winner will move on to the 9A Regional Finals.
7A FHSAA Girls Volleyball
New Smyrna Beach High School won their Regional Quarterfinal match against South Lake. The Barracudas won in 3 sets: 25-18, 25-15, 25-10. Their next match is on Tuesday, 10/30 against Lake Gibson.
Father Lopez lost a close 5-set match against Lake Gibson: 25-13, 25-22, 20-25, 21-25, 9-15.
9A FHSAA Girls Volleyball
DeLand lost their match against the #1 ranked team in the state: Oveido: 9-25, 15-25, 17-25.
Spruce Creek will get their opportunity to play Oveido next. The Lady Hawks won their match against a tough Lyman team: 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-19. The Regional Semifinal match will take place on Tuesday, 10/30.
There are 4 Volusia County varsity volleyball teams playing in the 2018 FHSAA Girls Volleyball State Championships. All 4 teams are playing in the Regional Quarterfinals this Wednesday (10/24).
9A Regional Quarterfinals
Spruce Creek is hosting Lyman from Longwood, FL. Lyman has an overall record of 21-6 and is currently ranked 13th in the state. Spruce Creek is ranked 12th in the state and has a 24-3 record. The match starts at 7pm on Wednesday (10/24) at Spruce Creek gym.
DeLand travels to Oviedo to take on the top-ranked team in the state. Oveido High School’s record is 23-4, and they are on a 9-game winning streak. The match starts at 7pm (Wednesday, 10/24).
7A Regional Quarterfinals
Father Lopez travels to Lakeland, FL on Wednesday (10/24) to take on Lake Gibson High School. Lake Gibson is 20-7 overall for the season, and is ranked 89th in the state.
New Smyrna has a home match against South Lake (Groveland, FL) on Wednesday (10/24) at 7pm. South Lake is 13-8 this season, and the Cudas are 25-3. Game starts at 7pm.
Volusia varsity volleyball playoffs are here! It’s one-and-done time, so here’s hoping all our local teams can advance through to the state finals.
9A District 1 Match-Up
Spruce Creek has a home match against DeLand for the 9A District 1 finals. Winner heads to the Regional Quarterfinals. Game is at 6pm at Spruce Creek High School.
7A District 5 Results
New Smyrna won their District Finals match against Father Lopez on Thursday in 3 sets. Both New Smyrna and Father Lopez move on the Regional Quarterfinals. New Smyrna will play at home match on Thursday (10/24 at 7pm) against South Lake. Father Lopez will play away at Lake Gibson (Lakeland) on Thursday (10/24 at 7pm).
Last night, four teams battled for the chance to play in the 7A District 5 Finals.
- Father Lopez beat Mainland in 3 close sets: 25-21, 25-20, 25-23.
- New Smyrna beat Deltona in 3 sets: 25-16, 25-14, 25-10
The finals will be this Friday, at 7pm at New Smyrna Beach. New Smyrna won both of the conference games these two teams played this season, but Father Lopez is the only team in the District 5 to win a set off of New Smyrna.
This week is District Playoffs, so Varsity Volleyball is quickly coming to an end!
Last night’s Games
Atlantic High School played at Deltona but lost. Deltona moves on to their next match tomorrow night against New Smyrna Beach.
Mainland High School beat Pine Ridge in a 5-set marathon match: 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-6. Mainland moves on to play against Father Lopez on Tuesday night.
Tonight (10/16) – two Key Match-ups
Father Lopez (Home) versus Mainland at 6pm. Father Lopez has won their previous matches against Mainland High School during the season, but Mainland is coming off a big win which may propel them to their first victory against Father Lopez.
New Smyrna Beach versus Deltona at 7pm. Deltona has lost both matches against New Smyrna this season so pulling an upset may be difficult against a very tough New Smyrna team.
The teams who succeed tonight will play each other to win the 7A District 5 division.
9A District 1 Matches
On Wednesday, 10/17, DeLand will play against Mandarin at Spruce Creek at 5pm. At 7pm on Wednesday, Spruce Creek will play the winner of the Flagler Palm Coast/Sandalwood game. The winners of these matches will play on Friday, 10/19
This weekend, many of Florida’s varsity volleyball powerhouses played in Bishop Moore’s Swing for Cure Tournament, and Spruce Creek High School finished 3rd in the Premiere Teams Division.
Spruce Creek won all their matches in pool play against Bishop Moore (Orlando), Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville), and Viera which put them in the Gold Bracket on Saturday. Gold Bracket teams included Oveido (ranked #1 in Florida), Plant City (ranked #6), and Ft. Pierce Central (ranked #15).
The Lady Hawks lost a tough match against Plant High School with the score 21-25 and 29-31, but they came out swinging against Ft. Pierce Central High School and won in three sets: 25-17, 20-25, 15-13.
In the Gold Bracket Finals match, Oveido beat Plant High School: 25-19, 25-18.
This looks to be the last week of Volusia County varsity volleyball before district competition starts. Here are some of the match-ups you don’t want to miss!
Atlantic ladies head to Mantanzas on Tuesday (10/9 at 6:30p) and play at home against Flagler Palm Coast on Wednesday (10/10 at 6:30p).
DeLand has three games this week: Tuesday (10/9 at 6:30p) at University, Wednesday (10/10 at 7pm) against Windermere Prep, and Thursday (10/11 at 6:30p) against Seabreeze.
Deltona has one match this week. They play on Tuesday (10/9 at 6pm).
There are two away matches for Father Lopez: Tuesday (10/9 at 6pm) against Spruce Creek and Thursday (10/11 at 6pm) against Trinity Prep.
Mainland has two home matches this week. On Tuesday (10/9 at 6pm), they play against Warner Christian, and on Thursday (10/11 at 6pm), they play University.
Seabreeze plays at home on Wednesday (10/10 at 6:30pm) against Mantanzas, and then they play away at DeLand on Thursday, (10/11 at 6:30pm)
The Lady Hawks have two home matches this week. On Monday (10/8), Spruce Creek plays Lake Mary at 7pm. They play Father Lopez on Tuesday (10/9) at 6pm.
This week Warner plays on Tuesday (10/9) against Mainland at 6pm, and then they have a game at home on Thursday against Calvary Christian Academy at 6pm.
Believe it or not, Volusia County varsity volleyball fans, the season is about to end! We only have a couple of weeks left of volleyball for most of the Volusia County high school teams.

Atlantic High School
With an overall record of 8 wins and 11 losses, Atlantic High School is sitting 5th in the 7A District 5 standings. This week Atlantic played Calvary Christian Academy on Monday, and Deltona on Tuesday. They lost a close one last night against Deltona: 25-11, 26-28, 25-22, 22-25, 10-15.
DeLand High School
DeLand won their home game against Lake Mary on Tuesday night. DeLand’s overall record is 10 wins and 6 losses. They play away against Seminole tonight at 7:00pm.
Deltona High School
Deltona has a 6-7 record for the season. They won against Atlantic High School on Tuesday, and they play Father Lopez on Thursday.
Sitting in 2nd place in the 7A District 5 standings, Father Lopez’s overall record is 15-5. On Tuesday, they lost their match against the 1st place team in 7A District 5 standings, New Smyrna: 25-22, 15-25, 20-25, 12-25. On Wednesday, they play at home against Menendez (St. Augustine).
Mainland High School
Mainland played at home against Seabreeze and won in 4 sets: 11-25, 27-25, 25-18, 25-17. Mainland’s overall record is 8-8 and their next match is Thursday, 10/4 in Jacksonville against Sandalwood.
New Smyrna Beach
The Cudas overall record is 22-3 this year, and they have a Florida state rank of 76. They’re also sitting in first place in the 7A District 5 standings. New Smyrna won against Father Lopez on Tuesday night, and they play Seabreeze tonight (10/3) at 6:30pm
Pine Ridge High School
With a 2-14 record, Pine Ridge’s season is almost at its end. On Thursday night, they play their last scheduled match for the season against Atlantic High School at 6:00pm.
Seabreeze High School
Seabreeze is still seeking its first win of this season. They lost to their local rival, Mainland, on Tuesday (10/2). The Sandcrabs play New Smyrna tonight (10/3) at 6:30pm. Next week, they have two matches left on their schedule: Matanzas on Wednesday (10/10) at 6:30pm and DeLand on Thursday at 6:30pm.
Spruce Creek High School
The Lady Hawks are having a great season: 15 wins and only 1 loss. They are ranked 8th in the State, and 2nd in their district. They beat Seabreeze in 3 sets on Monday (10/1), and then Spruce Creek beat Flagler Palm Coast on Tuesday, (10/2). Their next match is on Friday, 10/5 against Merritt Island High School, a team that also has a 15-1 record for the season.
Warner Christian Academy
Warner Christian plays at home tomorrow (10/4) against St. Johns Country Day at 6:00pm. They are currently 10-5 overall this season. They play Mainland High School on Tuesday, 10/9 at 6:00pm.
